
The West Central Valley Coed Classic high school cross-country meet was held on Thursday in Redfield on the middle school grounds under sunny conditions and temperatures around 70 degrees. The Greene County boys placed sixth among 11 teams while the girls were fifth in a field of just five teams with enough runners to qualify for a team score.
The boys from Greene County were led by junior Brady Carstensen who finished 19th among 107 runners in 18:16.59. Next for the Rams was sophomore Nick Black, 22nd in 18:32.36, followed by senior Jaden Koller, 25th in 18:47.11, sophomore Kole Johnson-Peterson, 39th in 19:49.95, and junior Eli Carstensen, 41st in 19:59.13.
Sophomore Rylee Mowrer led the girls from Greene County in 22:53.98, good for 16th place in a field of 56. Junior Evelyn Snyder was 32nd in 25:17.74 with senior Ava Minnehan, 40th in 26:58.24, senior Leah McCormick, 43rd, 29:23.01 and sophomore Cora Powers , 45th in 20:40.72.
The Earlham girls won the team title with 31 points, followed by Interstate 35 (Truro) 48, Creston 68, Des Moines Hoover 101, and Greene County 121.
Ankeny Christian Academy was the champion for boys with 40 points. Earlham was next with 56, then came Creston 107, Saydel (Des Moines) 108, Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) 109, Greene County 146, Hoover 201, I-35 216, West Central Valley 266, Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton 334, and 335 for Southwest Valley (Corning).
Next up for Greene County is the Rams only home meet of the season. The Greene County Invitational is at Spring Lake State Park northeast of Jefferson on Thursday, Sept. 11.
