In their August meeting, the Panorama School Board approved the first reading of amendments to their chronic absenteeism and truancy policy.

Superintendent Kasey Huebner says that there were some changes made to state law regarding how many days students missed classes, and tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the amendments help make sure that their policy reflects that.

“That’s really getting and making those amendments to be with what (the) Iowa code is. So we’re making sure that we are connected to what the law is.”

Huebner mentions that a few instances where truancy does not apply were added via the amendments, including being engaged in military services, a military applicant undergoing entrance processing, and traveling to attend a funeral or a wedding.
