There’s a nationally recognized day coming up towards the end of the month, but Mary J Barnett Memorial Library is celebrating it throughout September.
Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that National Good Neighbor Day is September 28th, but that she’s planned different events throughout the month to help promote celebrating the spirit of the day. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she wanted to do this.
“I just really like to continue to celebrate and support National Good Neighbor Day. It was originally signed into law in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter. So I just feel like it’s something that we should celebrate and enjoy living in such a great community and how neighbors are an important part in a farming community or a rural community, and they’re always there to help you out.”
Hawkins mentions that there is a Neighbor Challenge Bingo card to fill out throughout the month, and that there will be several puzzle and board game events as well. The events will be on September 13th from 10am to 1pm, September 16th from 4pm until the library closes, and September 20th from 10am to 1pm.
