The Adel Parks and Recreation Department is holding the 4th Annual Power Wheels Nationals contest on Saturday, but registration ends soon.

According to Recreation Supervisor Ramona Dillinger, children 2-7 years old are able to participate in the races at Kinnick Feller Park. She reveals that there are three separate racing divisions, with 2-4 year olds in the Limited Pro-Stock, then ages 5-7 that are in the Pro-Stock, and an Outlaw division for 5-7 year olds that are able to make alterations to their vehicles.

Dillinger points out that participants will need to bring their own power wheels and a helmet if they can, but reassures that the Parks and Rec Department has community power wheels and helmets available to borrow. She highlights that trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division as well as contingency giveaways. Dillinger enjoys seeing the children have fun as some of them will be given additional prizes.

“The thing that is great about this is that every child can participate, and the smiles on their faces as they cross the finish line. So we have 25 power wheels that are donated. Those power wheels are then raffled off at the end of the race. So 25 children will leave with a brand new power wheel that day.”

Dillinger explains that participants have the choice to pre-register or sign up on Saturday morning prior to the races kicking off. She notes that pre-registration ends tomorrow, while on-site sign up will be taking place from 9-10am on Saturday. Dillinger concludes that kids who pre-register will receive a t-shirt, while each child who signs up will be granted a free lunch and a voucher for a free ice cream cone at Billy’s Ice Cream Store in Adel.
