The AC/GC Chargers volleyball team extended their win streak, taking out the Des Moines Christian (DMC) Lions 3-0.
Head Coach Caley Vaughan says the team had a strong performance against the Lions, taking the first set 25-22, the second 25-17, and the final set 25-20, and extending their record to 4-2 in the season. She explains that the team’s performance was highlighted by consistency at the service line, where four players including Meranda Gruber served 100 percent, and that the team finished around 94 percent.
Vaughan adds that according to unofficial stats, Stella Largent led the charge with over 40 swings and 20 kills, and that during the first set, almost all of her hits were kills. Setter Becca Littler put in a lot of work, chasing down every ball and delivering great sets to keep the offense flowing.
Defensively, the Chargers blockers forced DMC to adjust, causing them to hit several balls out of bounds, and miss some key serves at crucial moments. Vaughan shares that Ilana Baumert and Kailee Kautzky were able to read the Lions hitters and had many great digs in the back row, and that when Richter made the winning hit to seal the match at the end of the 3rd set, it felt just like a walk off home run. She states that the team stayed aggressive, limited free balls, and played together as a team to earn the win.
