The first five matches of the Greene County High School volleyball season were against four teams ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, including a pair in Class 5A, two in 4A, and Kuemper Catholic, the number two ranked 3A squad. After losing all five of those matches, the Rams did get in the win column with a three game sweep of Perry on Monday night in Jefferson to begin the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference slate.
Greene County’s Activities Director Dave Wright talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about that difficult start. “The opponents we’ve had in our earlier matches have prepared us a little bit better and I think the opportunity to up the level of play and play against quality opponents is invaluable, really, for improvement and seeing where you’re at and those types of things.”
Wright added that if a program wants to be elite they have to be able to play and compete with high level teams.
The Rams are away from competition until this Saturday when they travel to Eldora for the South Hardin Tournament.
