Perry High School is seeing years of work pay off with reaching towards academic success.

Superintendent Clark Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the school board held a work session a few years back to pinpoint areas of emphasis, with one being on educational excellence. He describes that Principal Brad Snowgren and Associate Principal Andrew McCormick are stressing the importance of standard based grading (SBG).

Wicks elaborates that SBG looks at students’ ability to master specific learning standards, rather than be calculated through points or percentages on assignments. He believes that this is the best practice for students and administrators.

“I think just some really rich conversations, so students will know exactly where they’re at, teachers will know exactly where they’re at, and just that combination of emphasizing educational excellence with the vehicle of standard based grading.”

Wicks praises the incredible work that both Snowgren and McCormick are doing with high school students.
