A novelty item from the 1970s is making its way back as a fun interactive program at the Adel Public Library on Tuesday.

Programming Specialist Lily Schwarz tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the library will be hosting a Pet Rock Adoption event for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. She says that people loved their previous rock painting programs, and for this next one, Schwarz wanted to try using pet rocks.

Schwarz explains that participants will be given a pet rock to decorate the shell however they choose, as well as a rock house, plus a certificate.

“I’m really excited about it, if I was a kid I would nerd out about this. I will make an example rock enclosure, which is just completely selfless, it’s just for the children to be able to view the rock, and also so I can make a rock enclosure, I think it will be fun.”

Schwarz details that the program is happening inside the library community room on Tuesday from 4-5pm. The program doesn’t require registration and is free. Any questions can be directed to the Adel Public Library at (515)-993-3512.
