In the first Saturday tournament of the high school volleyball season the Greene County Rams won three matches and lost just one in Eldora at the South Hardin Invitational. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams went 6-3 in sets in the round-robin event.
The day started with the Rams topping Class 1A tenth ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck in three sets, 24-22, 15-21, 16-14. Next came a loss to S. Hardin 11-21, 16-21, with two victories to follow. The Rams topped Oelwein 21-15, 21-14, and ended the day with a 21-19, 21-18 win vs. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio the bench stats (unoffical) show sophomore Hannah Fouch leading the Rams in kills for the day with 25. Senior Lila Osterson was next with 20 kills, followed by14 for senior Calleigh Fitzpatrick, 12 from junior Makenna Ebersole, and four for sophomore Ashlynn Ball.. Junior Libero Bellah Johnson had 37 digs with 19 for sophomore Madi Skalla, and 14 by senior Addison Gannon.
The coach said, “We had a strong start to the day beating Gladbrook-Reinbeck in our first match In recent competitions we might have buckled under the pressure of a tight third set, but today we held our ground, showed strength and scrappy play. We struggled with passing against South Hardin and couldn’t get in an offensive flow. But we regrouped and finished strong to pull out a couple more wins for the day.”
Coach Heisterkamp’s Rams stand at 4-6 on the season with a Sept. 16 non-conference quadrangular in Guthrie Center hosted by ACGC next on the schedule.
