A head-on collision in Guthrie County Saturday resulted in one fatality.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 4:48pm 17-year-old Savannah Matthias was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier that was going west on Iowa Highway 44. The crash report states Matthias failed to negotiate a curve near Willow Avenue and crossed into the eastbound traffic and crashed head-on into a 2016 Ford F-250 truck that was driven by 37-year-old Noelle Bubeck of Redfield. 

Authorities say Matthias was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bubeck and one minor child passenger were taken to UnityPoint in Des Moines with minor injuries, and another minor child passenger in Bubeck’s vehicle was taken by air ambulance also to UnityPoint in Des Moines with suspected serious injuries. The case remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
