The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During reports, County Engineer Wade Weiss said the bridge on A Avenue near Ralston is open to traffic once again, after being replaced earlier this summer. He added that after having a conversation with Carroll County, the county road that includes the bridge may be looked at for an asphalt overlay project. He noted that the road was in rough shape and the last overlay was done about 20 years ago.

Weiss also mentioned that shoulder dirt work is continuing on the three county road projects, including E-18, P-46 and P-29, with the installation of a drainage tile to start next week.

County Assessor Adam Smith told the Supervisors that the contract with a company to help with parcel updates on the county’s Beacon website is still being finalized and reviewed by the County Attorney’s Office.

The Board then approved a resolution for a comprehensive settlement agreement with Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center. It was mentioned that new members to the organization that came after 2012 didn’t follow the procedure correctly. However, since Greene County was a member before 2012, they followed the procedure correctly and will continue to be a voting member going forward.

The Board also approved a construction administrative services contract with BBS Architects for the Greene County Courthouse HVAC project for an amount not to exceed $150,000. They also approved a construction agreement with Graphite Construction Group for the same project. The 2025 fiscal year cash report was reviewed and ready for publication. Additionally, the Board approved changes to the employee handbook that were presented, and tabled a decision on approving a proposed wetland project in Highland Township with an adjoining drainage district in Webster County. Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn recommended tabling the item because there needed to be representation from Webster County as that item is being approved.

Finally, the Board held a discussion about increasing wages for the Greene County Ambulance Department employees. The County hired Iowa EMS Consultants to review the wages, find comparable with the surrounding counties and similar-sized counties, along with talking with Greene County Medical Center officials. The recommendation was to increase the wages to be in the middle of the comparable counties to retain current employees and attract more quality individuals so that all transfers from the medical center would be covered. The Supervisors will act on that item at a future meeting, with the changes to be implemented starting November 1st.
