A resident of Perry was recently inducted into the Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) Hall of Fame.
According to the PGA of America, six individuals are being selected to the 2025 Hall of Fame Class who have made significant contributions to the organization in its mission to expand the game of golf. Of the inductees, Perry’s own John David (JD), Turner was named as one of the inductees.
PGA of America says Turner grew up in the Perry community, was a Perry High School Bluejay graduate, and then attended the University of Iowa, where he was the first person to receive the Herman Sani Golf Scholarship and would transfer to Graceland College, where he was inducted into the institution’s Hall of Fame in 1989.
In addition, he was a PGA of America Golf Professional since 1970, leading him to 67 wins as well as five Iowa Open Championships. Turner was honored with the Iowa Golf Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990 and was inducted into the Iowa PGA Hall Fame in 1995. The other recipients for the PGA Hall of Fame Class of 2025 include Jim Richerson, Ronny Glanton, Jim McLean, Nancy Lopez, and Dennis Walters. Turner, along with the rest will be officially inducted at the 109th PGA Annual Meeting during a special ceremony on November 5th at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort in Frisco, Texas.
