Greene County was a 47-7 Homecoming football game winner vs. the Saydel Eagles on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are now 3-1 and have completed non-district play while the Eagle fell to 1-3. In the last seven meetings vs. the Eagles, the Rams are 7-0 with a 341-28 scoring margin.
The defense came up with seven turnovers, six of those pass interceptions, and the offense totaled 422 yards. A season best 308 yards on the ground was big as well.
On the downside, Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio junior standout Trevon Keely broke a bone in an arm. That happened when he was tackled after a 12 yard reception on the second play of the game.
Senior Broc Stream had two pass interceptions, turning one of those into a 30 yard return for a touchdown. Senior Christopher Daugherty, senior Drew Wolterman, junior Aryan Sweat, and freshman Joe Higgins each had one pick, and senior Phoenix Hartman recovered a Saydel fumble. Hartman later left the game with an apparent injury.
Junior quarterback Zach Stalder had a big night with two touchdown passes, two running touchdowns, and a career best 133 yards on 14 carries. He scored on runs of 38 and three yards. Daugherty also had a career night carrying the ball with 124 yards on 16 carries, and he also had two rushing TDs., from 17 and five yards. Stalder threw a 33 yard TD pass to sophomore Aryan Sweat, which was his first varsity reception. Wolterman caught a TD pass covering 14 yards.
The Eagles had 137 yards through the air, but were just six of 27 throwing the ball with the six interceptions. They ran the ball 18 times for only 36 yards for 173 total yards.
The Rams travel to Dewey Field in Perry on Sept. 26 for the Blue Jays’ Homecoming game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. An actual Cowbell donated by the Jefferson and Perry Rotary Clubs has traveled with the winning team since 1928. The Rams now have 599 all-time football victories since the start of the sport in 1898.
