Adel-DeSoto-Minburn junior Makenna Pitlick is making great strides for softball, outside of school, as she’s also balancing her fall sport.
Pitlick tells Raccoon Valley Radio that in addition to playing volleyball this fall, she’s involved in travel softball. She explains that she learned about the league from her ADM Softball teammate Elliotte Von Roden, and it drew interest to her, so Pitlick spoke with the coach of the Iowa Gold Mathews and was guaranteed a spot. She indicates that it can be tough at times trying to tangle between volleyball, softball, and school, but she leans on her family, who constantly support her.
“I owe it all to my family. They are there for me every single game, like my parents are always like ‘Ok, one of us has to be at each of Makenna’s games,’ and the one that’s not there is always texting me and calling me, and asking how it’s going. So truly their support is unwavering, it’s amazing, and I love them so much.”
Pitlick outlines that she’s really trying to work on consistency on her pitches, as she admits that she gave up more walks with ADM in her sophomore year than she would’ve liked. On September 10th, Pitlick was named the Iowa Gold Athlete of the Week, as she went 8-16, had 4 doubles, 2 home runs, and struck out 19 batters in 10 innings pitched. Pitlick will be featured on tonight’s Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine on KDLS 94.3/99.7 FM and AM 1310 at 6pm.
