Sunday is National Good Neighbor Day, and May J Barnett Memorial Library has been celebrating all month.
Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that the library has been holding events throughout the month to get people into the good neighbor spirit. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how people can also play Good Neighbor Bingo.
“So for anyone that would be interested in completing one of those, we have those at the checkout counter. And for every Bingo Card you drop off this month in September, you’ll be entered for a drawing. Stop by and pick up a bingo card and complete a neighborhood challenge such as saying hello, doing some kind of act of kindness, or maybe hosting a community event or a backyard grilling time.”
Hawkins mentions that she remembers how growing up in a rural community brought together neighbors when she was a child, and wanted to celebrate that with patrons of the library and members of the community to try and help make sure that sense of community would continue on.
