
A Perry man was recently taken into custody after he allegedly became aggressive with officers following an alleged drunk driving incident.
According to court documents, a Perry Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on Sunday, September 21st for going 35 miles per hour in a posted 25 mph zone south of 1st Street. The criminal complaint states that during the traffic stop, the officer noticed the driver, who was identified as 46-year-old George Enrique Gonzales, had watery and bloodshot eyes. The officer observed that Gonzales’s speech was slurred and he smelled alcohol coming from him.
The court documents show that Gonzales went through a sobriety field test, but he denied the walk and turn test. According to court documents, Gonzales agreed to a preliminary breath test and his blood alcohol content level exceeded the legal limit, and he was arrested for a serious misdemeanor of operating while under the influence 1st offense. The criminal complaint notes that on the way to the Dallas County Jail, the officer saw that Gonzales appeared to be unconscious or asleep.
Court documents show that the officer contacted the Emergency Medical Services Department, but Gonzales woke up and he became agitated and allegedly spat and scratched the EMS employee, causing an open wound. Gonzales was eventually apprehended and then charged with a Class D Felony for assault on person in certain occupations causing bodily injury. Gonzales is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
