Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative recently crafted a bill that will assist in creating more jobs for residents.

U.S. Congressman Zach Nunn, alongside Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), introduced the Promoting Apprenticeships through Regional Training Networks for Employers’ Required Skills (PARTNERS) Act, which is a bipartisan bill to expand access to work-based learning programs and design high-quality jobs. He explains that the bill is a response to workforce shortages by investing in the relationships between businesses, educators, and community organizations. Nunn emphasizes the value of a real person’s work ethic.

“A future of artificial intelligence (A.I.), there’s nobody who can build a data center, who can weld metal, who can put up power lines or construct your house that is an A.I. bot, but there is a real pathway here for skill trades to be successful.”

Nunn shares that employers in the fields of manufacturing, health care, and construction are struggling to find people to fill jobs and that the goal of the PARTNERS Act would be to establish a new federal grant program to support the development and expansion of local partnerships to help small and medium-sized businesses offer paid, hands-on training opportunities, mentorship, and support services that would lead to long-term employment. He feels confident that this bipartisan bill will bring positive momentum to the residents and employers.
