The Jefferson City Council met briefly Tuesday evening.

During open forum, Russ Gettler spoke to the Council about high property taxes and asked the Council to stop giving away tax dollars for personal growth, reduce the years for tax abatement from ten to three or to just get rid of it, and stop double dipping with tax abatement and tax increment financing.

Due to there being no action items, City Engineer Jim Leiding reported that the airport fuel station project is set to begin construction next spring and the financial study for the Greenewood Community Center and golf course reconstruction is being finalized and planning to present to the Council in October. City Administrator Scott Peterson said Finance Officer Sarah Morlan will be resigning her position as her husband has taken another job in Storm Lake and Water Superintendent Kyle DeMoss has also tendered his resignation.

Greene County Development Corporation Executive Director Greg Piklapp said Midwest Mission has closed on purchasing the former Aureon building from GCDC.
