A non-profit organization in Jefferson is hosting a two-day event that volunteers are needed for, which would have a global impact.
Midwest Mission Iowa Public Relations Coordinator Danille Curtis says the Rice and Soy Blessing Bag Pack is taking place at their Jefferson location, across from City Hall on North Chestnut Street, tomorrow and Friday, with a goal of putting together 10,000 meals that are going to feed an estimated 60,000 people in Haiti. She is asking for volunteers to sign up for a two-hour shift and will be done in an assembly-style to pack the meals.
Curtis points out that each packing line needs about ten volunteers, with four of those being able to sit down; the minimum age is 11 years-old and those youth that are under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. She notes that participants must wear closed-toe shoes, along with hair and beard nets, and gloves will also be provided. Curtis adds that the meals will be shipped to Haiti in October.
The times are tomorrow from 9-11am, 1-3pm and 5-7pm. Friday’s shifts include 9-11am and 1-3pm. Click here to sign up.
