A building project slated for Churdan recently received a donation that will be used toward their fundraising efforts.

Paton-Churdan Early Learning Center President Cassie Fielder says NEW Cooperative and Land O’ Lakes donated $5,000 toward their all-in $2.15 million estimated new building project that is slated to be west of the P-C School parking lot. She says they also recently applied for a sizable grant to further offset the total cost.

“We are working with Region XII (Council of Governments) on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) which is for low-to-medium income families in the area, it focuses on daycare facilities. That is a $600,000 grant, you just have to have $600,000 worth of matching funds to apply.”

Fielder notes that they have already secured the $600,000 matching funds through various business pledges, the Greene County Board of Supervisors pledging $180,000 and a $400,000 pledge from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation. It was noted at the September 8th Supervisors meeting that there is no timetable for when the CDBG grants are announced, the applications are reviewed as funds are available.

The Supervisors are also the fiscal agent, should the CDBG be awarded and PCELC is still taking donations and pledges at this time. Fielder adds to make a donation, click here or to the United Bank of Iowa in Churdan.
