Tomorrow night will see the renewal of the longtime high school football series known as “The Cowbell Game” when the Greene County Rams visit the Perry Blue Jays at Dewey Field in Perry. It’s one of Iowa high school football’s longest rivalries dating back to 1898. In 1928 the Rotary Clubs from Jefferson and Perry donated an actual cowbell that travels with the winning team, so this is the 95th meeting with the cowbell at stake, but the two schools have meet far more times than that.

The Rams are 3-1 and the Blue Jays are 0-4, but Perry has shown big play ability on offense and special teams, which Greene County head coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about. “I’ve watched four games of film on them and I would say the vast majority of touchdowns they’ve scored are all 40, 50 yards and longer gains. I haven’t seen too many times where they’ve just matriculated the ball down the field as they say, but they’re dangerous, a big play type of offense and on special teams, so they’ve got some athletes that are dangerous.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with coverage at 6:30 a.m. on KDLS 1310 AM, KGRA 98.9 FM, and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
