The Jefferson Public Library is teaming up with the Greene County Conservation Board to celebrate National Mushroom Month.

Library Director Jane Millard says the “More Than Morels: Let’s Talk Wild Mushrooms” program will take place on Tuesday from 5:30-7pm at the north meeting room at the Greene County Community Center. She points out that Greene County Conservation Naturalist Jacob Fernholz will talk about the varieties of mushrooms that can be found in the county and how to identify them.

Local foraging expert Ronda Kendall will give tips about what to look for when foraging for wild mushrooms that are edible, the type of bag to have on hand and how to do a spore print to determine if a mushroom is poisonous.

Millard adds that this program is free and open to the public, and the library will have several books on display to check out at the library about mushrooms.
