The public is invited to an open house to hear about a proposed project within the city of Jefferson.
City Administrator Scott Peterson says the open house is to inspect the preliminary plans and give input for a sidewalk project around Westwood Drive. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio, there were original plans for this project 20 years ago but he explains why the potential construction item has been brought back up.
“Largely because of foot traffic associated with school, and what was happening with busing and where the bus stops were. So there’s a lot of kids walking out in that area.”
Peterson points out that the six-foot sidewalk being looked at on the northside of West Lincoln Way, starting near the Greene County Medical Center, then staying on the west side as West Lincoln Way curves to the south. He states the sidewalk would be on the northside of Westwood Drive, before being on the west side of South Grimmell Road back to West Lincoln Way.
Peterson invites everyone to the open house on Tuesday from 7-8:30pm at Abundant Life Ministries in Jefferson. He says the engineering firm, Bolton and Menk, will make a short presentation before opening the plans up for the public to review and ask questions. Peterson notes that this project is still in the information-gathering stage, but funding for it has already been earmarked as part of a bond that the city council approved for this fiscal year, which is estimated to cost about $1 million.
