The AC/GC Chargers took down the Madrid Tigers 33-15 in a strong showing Friday night.
The Chargers started things off getting the ball first, and were forced to punt the ball away. The Tigers were also forced to punt away on their first possession, and AC/GC was unable to score on their second, but the same went for Madrid. The longest play of the game for the Chargers started on their own 25 yard line, and ended six plays later on a 60+ yard touchdown by senior fullback Brexton Schneider. He also punched in the team’s subsequent possession, putting them up 14-0 going into the second.
In the second quarter, the Tigers were forced to punt the ball away, but senior lineman Jack Sheeder barreled into the backfield to block the kick, and Schneider scooped it up to make another trip to the endzone. After a missed PAT, Madrid was unable to score once again, turning the ball over on downs, and the Chargers marched down the field for a score by senior running back Joe Crawford. Just before the halftime break, the Tigers made their way down the field for a score, sending the game into halftime with AC/GC leading 27-7.
The third quarter saw the Chargers go scoreless, while Madrid put another one in the end zone, and got the two point attempt to end the quarter with AC/GC leading 27-15. Schneider was able to punch another touchdown in from four yards during the final quarter, and the game ended with the Chargers moving to 5-0 on the season after taking the 33-15 victory. The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Players of the game were Schneider on the offense, with roughly 175 yards and three offensive touchdowns, along with his touchdown off the blocked punt, while the defensive player of the game was senior defensive back Charlie Christensen, who kept finding ball carriers like he had built in heat seeking capabilities.
