This evening, there is a public open house at the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson.

Manager Sarah Nicholson says they are ready to show-off all of the interior renovations to the theatre, with the featured item being all new seating and carpet in the auditorium. Thanks to the Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation and Greene County Community Foundation grants, Nicholson points out they were able to do extensive improvements to both the exterior and interior of their building.

“But it does mainly cover just the renovations. It’s not the operating expenses, the bills still come even though we are closed. But we feel that the need to cover the cost of being closed, because it can get quite costly very quickly, especially in our business. And being a non-profit, we rely on those donations so much, so much, we’re so grateful that we have such a supportive community.”

The open house is from 4:30-6pm tonight. Monetary donations can be mailed to their P.O. Box 346 in Jefferson, or mailed to 212 East State Street, Jefferson, IA 50129, can also be taken to the theater when it is open for a showing.
