An Adel man is being charged with a Class C Felony.
According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, 50 year old James Button was hired by a Greenfield resident to repair her home after the Greenfield tornado. According to court documents, a proposal was agreed upon for roof work in the amount of $13,464.21, with a down payment of $8,078.53. Later, the victim and Button agreed on a proposal for exterior work as well, in the amount of $19,453, with a down payment of $14,300. After the agreed proposals, and after Button received $22,378, he did not return to complete work on the victim’s home.
The victim gave Button until July this year to reach back out to her before contacting law enforcement. On August 4th a demand letter was sent to Button by Mailander Law Office to return the money, and he was given 20 days to respond, which he failed to do. Button was arrested last week and booked into the Adair County Jail on an alleged charge of 1st Degree Theft, a Class C Felony. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes official.
