October’s program with the Greene County Historical Society will examine aspects of the Civil War.

Organizers say that this Friday will feature Scranton resident David Burkett, who is a member of Civil War reenactors. The Historical Society says Burkett is a commander with the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), as well as a member of the 4th Infantry Division of the Southwest. They say that MOLLUS was first initiated to ensure the memory of the Civil War was not forgotten.

Burkett says their reenactors are living history and an outdoor school of the Civil War. They are also trying to find all of the Civil War veteran graves within Greene County.

The free program begins at 12:45pm at the First United Methodist Church in Rippey. A meal will be provided before the program at noon and will cost $12 per person. You must contact the Historical Society by tomorrow at 515-386-4408 to reserve a meal.
