The Perry Public Library is welcoming guests to help make creative designs during October to be displayed in preparation for a big art event in November.
According to Adult Services Librarian Mindy Farmer, the library is doing the inaugural “Tiny Art Show” from November 8th through the 15th to coincide with Art on the Prairie. She notes that in order to do that, participants will need to pick up take-and-make Tiny Art kits, featuring a four inch by four inch canvas, acrylic paints, and brushes at the library.
Farmer illustrates that people will be creating an art piece using supplies from the kit and incorporating their own materials into their design revolving around the theme of “Reading Takes You Places,” and that it should be no larger than a four-inch cube. She reveals how the idea of doing the Tiny Art Show came about.
“We have actually seen libraries around the country doing it. There’s one in the city I grew up in where they’ve been doing it for quite a few years, and posting online. And it’s actually really delightful just to see all of the different kinds of art that people make, and how fun it is to have just this tiny four by four square and see what your imagination can do.”
Farmer encourages everyone to join in, regardless of their artistic skill level and that the artwork will be on display throughout the library, as well as the library’s website. She explains that people are limited to one entry per artist and materials may be picked up in October and she asks that they return completed artwork to the Perry Library by Monday, November 3rd to be featured in the Tiny Art Show.
