A recent new report came out that lowers the amount of daily steps an individual can take to live a healthier lifestyle.

According to the Lancet, their study concluded that individuals who had at least 7,000 steps per day could achieve a better way of living that reduces risks for chronic disease and improved cardiovascular health, which is a lower benchmark than the previous research that showed the same outcomes for 10,000 steps.

Greene County Public Health Director Shelby Cooklin says this new study gives a more attainable goal, especially for children who have limited mobility.

“It’s encouraging, especially for families who may be overwhelmed by the 10,000 step benchmark. The new data shows the moderate, consistent movement throughout the day can still significantly benefit health. It reinforces the idea that something is better than nothing, and every step really does count.”
