With a pending federal government shutdown, United States Senator Chuck Grassley claims there are some legislators who are trying to dictate the direction of the government.
Grassley believes that there are a variety of senators that are looking to take action to suppress the government if they’re not able to have their way. Lawmakers are needing to pass a funding bill by the end of today to avoid a partial federal government shutdown, which Grassley states that it’s not a simple task to shut the government down, as it costs money to do so. Grassley also stresses that the federal government is vital to American citizens, as it acts as a public service. He gives a glimpse as to what it would possibly be like if a legislator attempts to stop the government from operating.
“Let’s say Senator XYZ says that I’m going to shut down the government if I don’t get what I want. Well I’ve been through enough government shutdowns, and you know what happens after you shut the government down for about three or four days or sometimes for a week, and you get embarrassed because your constituents are complaining to you about you can’t deal with the government when it’s shut down. And so we open the government up again, and Senator XYZ that says he’s going to shut the government down if he doesn’t get what he wants, he doesn’t even get what he wants.”
Grassley says that legislators need to take a closer look at the history of past shutdowns before ultimately deciding if that is what they’d like to pursue. He concludes that taxpayers deserve to have a government that they support.
