The first official deer hunting season is here.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Aron Arthur says archery deer season is October 1st through December 5th. He stresses safety during this time of year, especially when it comes to tree stands. Arthur recommends checking your tree stand if it is set up on private property and left year round to make sure everything is secure and working properly.
“Cause if you do fall out of a tree stand we do have to report that as a hunting accident. The other thing we talk about, of course if we’re talking about tree stands, is wear your safety harness, to and from, getting up and out of it. That way, if you do fall you won’t get injured and you’re there for safety.”
Arthur suggests that hunters tell someone where they are going to be and what time they plan to return. He says in case you are injured and can’t access your cell phone, then someone knows to come and find you. Arthur adds to make sure you also have a valid hunting license and habitat stamp when participating in the archery deer season.
