A property in Adel belonging to the Dallas County Conservation Department is updating its facility.

According to Outreach Coordinator Jeni Baker, the conservation department is trying to better accommodate guests at the Glissman Lodge. She explains that the lodge is an area where families are welcome to rent homes, which have access to modern amenities and outdoor recreation.

Baker notes that as currently constructed, people who aren’t renting a unit have to park miles away from the outdoor area and then walk for activities such as fishing. She expresses that the conservation department is creating a designated parking space closer to the public access area. Baker reveals that people renting units at the Glissman Lodge will begin to see more traffic with the addition of the new parking space.

“So if you stay there, you may see public people out there. Don’t get alarmed, they have the right to be there, but the house itself and the yard around it is for the renter only. But again, you can get closer now, so that should bring in more people and make them understand that they can be there. Just stay in the area you’re allowed to be in.”

Baker shares that the new parking area should be ready to open sometime in 2026.
