A small, but very important section of roadway in northern Greene County is back open to traffic.

County Engineer Wade Weiss says the 1.5 miles on County Road P-29 to the Webster County line was opened on Tuesday night. He notes that there is new concrete, along with a drainage tile installed on the shoulder as well. The project was paid for through farm-to-market funds.

Weiss points out another project is County Road P-46 from County Road E-18 south to County Road E-26, which also has new concrete, along with the drainage tile and crews are placing granular shoulder rock. He states crews are onto the final project with County Road E-18 from Iowa Highway 144 to the Boone County line is getting the shoulder drainage tile installed currently. He talks about working with the contractor for all of these projects and one major struggle that happened earlier this summer.

“Well Cedar Valley Corporation has been awesome to work with, they’re the general contractor. We’re very happy with what they’ve accomplished. I think the rain is never good for anybody when it comes like it did in July, especially. It’s unfortunate for the contractor, it’s unfortunate for the people who live along there. We’ve had very nice cooperation.”

These projects are paid for by tax increment financing from the wind turbines, as part of the Urban Renewal Plan.
