In the midst of hunting seasons in Iowa, one is now underway.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Aron Arthur says the popular duck season is from now until October 10th for the central zone, which is where Greene County is located. He points out another waterfowl season that is also underway in the central zone is dark and light geese that ends on October 12th for the first season.
Arthur points out that anyone who is participating in those seasons must have their valid hunting license, along with the state migratory and habitat fees, a federal duck stamp and hip registration. He notes that hip registrations consist of a short list of questions, which can all be done via the GoOutdoorsIA app.
“And you have to do it on your own. Before when you bought your license, the vendor usually asks you those questions and they found out that wasn’t happening very consistently. So now it’s on the hunter. Just remember, take the two seconds, once you login it’s like five questions, (and) you’ll get a hip number given to you. If you don’t carry your phone you can write it right there, there’s a spot on your license, if you carry your license, to write it right on there. Because you have to show that you are hip registered when you are out hunting migratory water game.”
