A Coon Rapids man was recently sentenced to probation for a March incident in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 45-year-old James Poole pled guilty to a Class D Felony for gambling-avoid setoff. He had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charge stemmed from a March 22nd incident where Poole won a $4,292 jackpot from a slot machine at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. He asked another person to take his seat and claim the winnings. When surveillance video showed Poole actually won the jackpot and his information was run through a database, he owed the Iowa Judicial Branch $1,865.
As per the plea agreement, Poole was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines and surcharges and he had the habitual offender portion of the Class D Felony, as well as another Class D Felony for second degree fraudulent practices dismissed.
