An annual fall event featuring prominent entities in Perry  will be happening on Saturday.

According to the Community Involvement Coordinator for Perry Hy-Vee Larry Vodenik, many first responders in Dallas County are going to be a part of the  Public Safety Day, in the HyVee Parking lot along 141st Street, on Saturday from 10am-1pm. He shares that the goal of the event is to familiarize the public with local law enforcement and other emergency workers, as well as learning more about their equipment.

Vodenik reveals that entities expecting to be at the event include the Perry Police and Fire Departments, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, and more. He says that regardless of age, it’s a great learning opportunity for anyone.

“I really enjoy seeing the kids interact with the police because so many times I see the kids are afraid of the police, and this is a way that they can meet them one on one. They’ll usually have a pretend vest there with equipment and everything on it, and they’ll put it on the kids, but it’s really interesting for me as an adult to go out there and see some of the city equipment, because there’s things that are beyond just the police and fire department.”

Vodenik notes that the event is free and adds that children will be able to take a picture in a fire truck.
