As the weather continues to become cooler, Dallas County will have its annual Coat Giveaway on Saturday.
According to Organizer Della Weems, the Adel Rotary Club, St. John’s Knights of Columbus, and the Adel First Christian Church come together to provide 250 free new coats each year. She acknowledges that the need for coats over the decades has risen and realizes that winter coats can be expensive, and wants to supply as many people with warm clothing as possible. Weems explains the Adel First Christian Church has been sponsoring a clothes closet for the past 30 years, which will be open on Saturday, and then on the first Saturday of each month afterwards.
Weems details the organization gave away 250 new coats and over 100 gently used coats last year and is willing to donate coats to anyone in need. She mentions that people that would like to donate can bring gently used clothes to the church, which is on the corner of Highway 169 and Rapids Street, in Adel from 10am-noon Monday through Thursday, or can simply make a monetary contribution. The Dallas County Coat Giveaway is open to everyone and is being held at the Adel First Christian Church from 9-11am.
