The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center (AC/GC) School Boards discussed their whole grade sharing agreement in their September regular meeting.
Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that the two schools have been using whole grade sharing since 2016, with both districts maintaining their elementary capabilities, and with AC hosting the junior high students, and GC hosting high school students. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the agreement was discussed, and what some changes may be.
“That’s coming to an end here at the end of this year. So we had a whole grade sharing committee meet and really look into ways to simplify how we bill each other. So that’s something we continue to look into, and really get into more of a per pupil rate for the students from Guthrie Center that go to the junior high, and the same thing for the junior high students that come to the high school from Adair – (Casey).”
Rasmussen mentions that there are also ongoing discussion of consolidation of the two districts, though it may take some time before that happens. He adds that while the whole grade sharing allows the districts to work together in hiring district level positions like superintendent, the school board secretary and the curriculum director, the consolidation would give them more opportunities to do similar things with other districts in the area.
