Conditions for the South Central Calhoun Coed Cross-Country meet were close to ideal on Tuesday for the Greene County Rams and other runners. After the heat of recent meets, sunshine, light winds, and temperatures in the low to mid-60’s were welcome.
Coach Jeff Lamoureux watched his boys’ team finish fourth among seven teams and the girls were sixth in a field of eight teams.
The top 25 boys and girls were medal winners and Coach Lamoureux told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams did well overall. “We had four boys and two girls in the top 25. So eally excited about that. Kaycee Pittman, running her first cross-country race, and Rylee Mowrer, were extremely impressive and was happy to see them both medal. We have a short turnaround and will need to be ready for Saydel on Thursday.”
Pittman led the Rams with a twelfth place finish, running the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 22:06.70, followed by Mowrer, who was 21st in 23:01.35. Evelyn Snyder was 32nd in 24:55.73, then Leah Mc Cormick was timed in 29:04.00, good for 49th place. Cora Powers was 50th in 229:21.07 and Gwen Osborn-Simmonds placed 52nd in 31.:07.37.
The Rams season long leader for the boys is Brady Carstensen and he led the Rams with a ninth place finish in 18:14.13. Nick Black was 14th in 18:37.52, followed by Jaden Koller, 17th in 19:06.31, Kole Johnson-Peterson, 24th in 19:26.79, and Maddox Carstensen, 43rd in 20:41.89, which was just .06 ahead of Eli Carstensen.
Newell-Fonda won the girls’ race with 31 points, followed by Sioux Central (Sioux Rapids) 49, Ridge View 65, Denison-Schleswig 114, South Central Calhoun 144, Greene County 148, Southeast Valley (Gowrie) 164, and 173 from Pocahontas Area.
