
A Bouton man was recently sentenced to probation for a domestic abuse incident that took place this past July.
According to court documents, 42-year-old Jeffrey Hughes pled guilty to two aggravated misdemeanors for domestic abuse assault second offense and domestic abuse assault displaying a weapon. He had two, two year prison sentences suspended and was placed on probation for a total of two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charges stem from an incident on July 7th inside of a home in Bouton, as reports show that Hughes was allegedly making slicing motions with a knife near a female victim’s neck, and then left the residence before law enforcement arrived. Court documents state that Hughes must pay over $2,000 in fines, surcharges, court costs, and victim restitution. As per the plea agreement, another felony for domestic abuse assault-third offense and an aggravated misdemeanor for domestic abuse assault-display a weapon were dismissed.
