Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley recently appointed new committee chairs ahead of the 2026 Legislative Session.

According to Grassley, District 28 Representative David Young, who represents Adel, will serve as the Chair of the Commerce Committee, after chairing the Transportation Committee the 2025 session. 

Additionally, District 47 Representative Carter Nordman, who serves the northwest corner of Dallas County with the city of Perry, plus Greene and Guthrie Counties, is the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, after being the chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. Because the Republican Party is in the majority in the House, the Speaker gets to appoint the respective committee chairs. The 2026 Legislative Session starts on January 12th.
