More information is emerging following the burning vehicle along Iowa Highway 141, just east of Perry that occurred Monday.

According to Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill, firefighters responded at 2:05pm to a report of a vehicle that was engulfed in flames that was heading west on Highway 141 near M Avenue. He details that a man and woman allegedly locked themselves out of the Ford Escape and tried to break a window to enter it, but then a fire started in the engine compartment, which spread throughout the vehicle.

Hill is not sure what caused the fire, but confirms that neither individual was injured. He explains that the Ford Escape is considered a total loss. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas County Emergency Medical Services Department assisted the Perry Fire Department at the scene.
