There is Greene County High School volleyball at Class 3A number 12 Roland-Story in Story City on the schedule for tonight, as well as the Rams running in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference cross-county meet at Monroe.

The volleyball Rams, under the direction of head coach Chris Heisterkamp, are 14-9 overall and 5-1 in HOIAC play. Greene County was 6-8 at one point, but wins in eight of the last nine matches have put the Rams in position for a winning season overall, but they face a number of good teams down the stretch. The Norsemen are unbeaten in the conference and 22-7 overall. A win by the Rams would keep them in contention for at least a share of the conference title, but victories vs. R-S have been tough to come by for the Rams over the years.

The HOIAC cross-country meet is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Gateway Recreation golf course at Monroe. There are middle school and high school races for girls and boys. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s girls have been shorthanded as of late and not qualified for a team score the last two meets. The boys have been in the middle of the pack or in the upper division in the majority of the meets they’ve been in. After the conference meet, all that remains on the Greene County cross-country schedule is the postseason.
