The Guthrie County Conservation Department continues to work on finding funding for the Raccoon River Valley Trail rehabilitation project.

Director Brad Halterman says that the joint project with Greene County Conservation is halfway to the $4.8 million goal thanks to donations and grants that they’ve received. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what could possibly still come.

“Waiting to hear results generally takes some time to hear back from them. So we’ve got some grants out there that we’re waiting to hear. We’ve got some that we’ve just turned in and we’re also continuing to work on other funding sources that come up, and grants that need to be turned in throughout the year.”

Halterman mentions that some of the grants they’re waiting on include a Resource Enhancement and Protection grant, State Recreational Trails Grant and Federal Recreational Trails Grant. He adds that they also continue to accept any donations individuals would like to make, and apply to other grants that work for the project.
