"Shifting Gears" by Hilde DeBruyne from Cumming, Iowa

One sculpture will remain on the south plaza of the Greene County Courthouse until next May.

Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says Iowa artist Hilde DeBruyne won the 2025 Ring Out for Art Contest with her sculpture called, “Gears” featuring multiple sizes of metal gears placed in a circular frame. He talks about DeBruyne’s history of her artwork in the community.

“Hilde has won almost every time she’s entered this. So, she has some very eye-catching sculpture work she does, and we have some permanent Hilde art in Imagination Alley. All the metalwork you see in there (including) the butterfly benches, the butterflies and dragonflies that are mounted to the wall, the kind of bookshelf piece of art there at the entrance on the east side of it, all Hilde work. So she does a lot of great work.”

As the winner, DeBruyne received an additional $500 cash prize to go along with her $1,000 stipend she received before when she was named one of the finalists for the contest. Wetrich thanks Home State Bank as the financial contributor to this competition and Tower View Team for being the organizer.
