An Iowa democratic senator gives her stance following the Republicans electing Mike Klimesh to be the new majority leader.

Back in September, the Republican party selected Klimesh to take over the majority leadership role from Senator Jack Whitver. District 14 Senator Sarah Trone-Garriott explains that 2025 is not part of the two-year election cycle, but there have been a few senators that have passed away from illnesses and have had to be replaced. She indicates that the change of leadership shifts priorities or even a new approach to tackling political situations.

Trone-Garriott speaks highly of Klimesh, saying that he is an individual who is committed to researching topics to come to a logical conclusion. She mentions that Klimesh served on the Health and Human Services Committee, and believes that the experience from there will carry over well to his new role.

“And that’s an area that’s really important to me and to a lot of Iowans. So I think with this new leadership, having someone who has a little more direct experience in that area will be helpful.”

Senator Whitver stepped down from his position due to health concerns, and Trone-Garriott is wishing him well during his recovery and for his loved ones around him.
