The City of Adel is going through the process of acquiring a longtime sanitation service.
According to Mayor Jim Peters, the South Dallas County Landfill has offered its curbside waste services to the communities of Adel, Redfield, Dexter, Dallas Center, Van Meter, and Waukee through a 28E Agreement.
However, Peters confirms that over the past few years, all of the communities except for Adel no longer needed the South Dallas County Landfill due to finding other companies to pick up their garbage. With the move, he says the city council came to an agreement to fully acquire them to work exclusively for the city.
“Once we complete this process, it’s going to be seamless. The community won’t really see any difference in their garbage pick up, but it’ll bring the operations to a city function, as opposed to being an independent one. So, it’s significant in terms of our operations, but it will be nice to merge these two entities (together).”
Peters is hoping to have this merger done by the end of the year.
