A former Jefferson city employee was fired for alleged theft of utility payments.
Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson confirms that former utility billing clerk Joyce Richardson was fired in July. Sources say following an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Richardson allegedly committed theft, among other violations. Sources say during testimony, it was determined that three cash deposits were missing, including December 2024, January 2025 and March 2025, in which Richardson was the individual that handled those accounts.
Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that because the matter is an ongoing personnel issue, the city has no comment to make at this time. Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn says the investigation into the case is ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
