With Halloween on Friday, law enforcement is reiterating safety measures to remember when trick or treating.
Perry Police Chief Jim Archer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that drivers need to stay extremely diligent on the roads since there’s usually a heavier amount of children walking along the streets and sidewalks than normal. He explains that sometimes kids dart across the road without looking, and drivers should always keep their head on a swivel. At the same time, Archer provides tips to parents/guardians to help easier identify their children to drivers.
“If you’re going to be out and about, especially after dark, to wear something that’s maybe a flashing light or some way to illuminate your children. Maybe some brighter costumes and not so much all the black stuff and that kind of thing. So, we really want people to be aware of that.”
Archer concludes that parents/guardians should monitor their children, taking them to houses with porch lights on and always double checking their candy before kids eat it, and if anything looks suspicious and maybe tampered with, to throw it out.
