The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved hiring Henry Pohlmeyer as the new city finance officer, following the resignation of Sarah Morlan due to moving out of the county. Pohlmeyer is currently the assistant parks and recreation director, which is being advertised for. It was mentioned that Pohlmeyer recently completed his master of business administration degree and has a desire to grow into city administration. His salary will be $50,000.

The Council also approved an Affidavit Operator for Water Distribution position. City Administrator Scott Peterson stated that following the resignation of Kyle DeMoss as Water Superintendent, there is no properly licensed individual to run the Water Plant or be the Water Distributor. DeMoss agreed to be the Affidavit Operator to distribute water on a month-to-month basis with a $400 fee, until a permanent solution is found.

Finally, the Council approved purchasing a 2016 Freightliner Jet Vac Truck for $275,000. Peterson said the vehicle is from a town in eastern Iowa and will allow the Water and Sewer Departments to perform additional tasks that were previously contracted out. Payment will be split between the departments, with $175,000 from the Sewer Capital fund and $100,000 from the Water Capital fund.
